Outie or Innie?

Forum: Crochet Yarns

When you get a ball of yarn that doesn’t have the centre end sticking out (so you can pull yarn from the centre), what do you do?

a) just use the outside end
b) use the outside end because that’s what I would do anyway
c) pull out yarn from the centre and find the centre end
d) never buy yarn that doesn’t have the centre end sticking out
e) what on earth are you talking about?

I attempt to find the centre end… if I can’t find it then I just go ahead and use the outside end, which is the end I always used until recently ( I didn’t know about the centre until a few months back) x

I don’t know why all yarn (in balls) don’t come with the “innie” sticking out.
Some do — now I look for them.

Amie Jane, I didn’t know that either…I’ve been watching my ball of yarn just flow around the floor forever!!

Yes, mines been doing it for 9 years now! Just hate that if I have to go searching for it, and end p with a big mess outside the middle.

Also, if I start with the middle, then have to ‘frog’ it, I can’t just wind it round the outside like I usually do.. have to carefully poke it back in!

Always the innie and if i cant find it i use my wool winder and make a wool cake and still use from the centre

personally, I pull out as small amount as possible from the centre (sometimes “small” means half the darned ball), find the centre thread… and work from there, with a puddle of yarn at my feet, beside the original ball.
Guess I need a wool winder / yarn baller

I’ve made my own. A dollar store tension rod. And a 3 dollar garage sale wicker basket = perfection.
