Creation Challenge 3 - Temperature Afghan #3: JANUARY updates

rather than posting weekly updates, I thought we could post here, throughout the month. I’ll then post another one for February, etc.

It will be nice to stay in touch, support each other, and share our stories as the year progresses.

Debbie Pribele ...

TIP: don’t be to quick to do the day’s row.
Yesterday was Sunday and I thought that, while I had some time, I’d do the day’s row. It was a lovely warm day (warm for a Canadian winter) and so I used the appropriate colour of yarn and checked it off my list.
And then the weather changed — the temperature dropped and we had a heavy snowfall. My row is completely wrong! Ha. “Do over?” I think not … I’ll just remember it as a typical Canadian day that I misjudged :)

Soooo, what would you do, do half the row in one and the other half in the other? I have never done one of these and this is interesting.

Debbie Pribele ...

I just left it as is .. but it’s a good point, since we can have such huge fluctuations in a day. I think I’d just go with the overall impression of the day. Easier to do :)

It went from about +5 to -11. Big change!

Here is my first 2 weeks. We will see a new color this weekend because we are expecting really frigid temperatures.

Debbie Pribele ...

isn’t that pretty. YIPPEEE Frigid temperatures!!! Another colour haha :)

Here is the blanket with week 3 added. The purples are the cold days. I even had to find one for below 0. Didn’t think I’d need that for the high temps but I did.

That’s pretty. I haven’t started one yet, but I am planning to make one. I am recording my info and saving it with a color chart that I made. I decided I didn’t want to do temperature but rather weather conditions. What do you think?

Jo Schrepfer ...

Sounds like a nice plan. On FB I’m seeing people do all sorts of interesting things. Since I’ve never done one before I decided to go simple. But some of the granny squares and hexagons are beautiful. Some have conditions, lows and highs in each square. So I don’t think there are any rules so to speak.

I’m doing: temperature, precipitation, and sunshine.

Debbie Pribele ...

so… are you a

  • “row a day” person?
  • a “7 rows/ once a week” person?
  • or do you have some other routine?

Debbie Pribele ...

I’m preferring the “7 rows at once” routine.
When I first started, I checked The Weather Network’s “Monthly” chart and I was thrilled … it showed all the weather for the past week. Woo hoo.. I just have to use that!
And then, a couple days later, I checked it and there was “no data available”… I’m so glad I looked. I would have been making up a whole week’s weather!
Now, I’m back to recording the temp every day.
