Crochet.Community Theme: Mandala

Mandalas .. what are they? Well, let’s head to Wikipedia to find out!
“[it] is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the Universe. […] a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation […] In common use, mandala has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically”

For me, when I crochet, it is often a time of meditation, as the world melts away around me and it is all about the yarn, crochet hook, and my fingers. How fitting, then, is to have the mandala as part of my crocheting repertoire.

Here, at Crochet.Community, we have many mandalas showcased AND we have the collaboration mandala (with members determining what each row will look like).

Here are some that have been TAGGED as mandala

BarbS ...

Ha! I found a Terrific use for the Mandala project! I’ll add it to my wooden shop stool. Here’s a link to Susan Carlson’s Mandala on Ravelry:

I wonder what other uses for them … rugs, pillows..

Pillows would work Very well. I can’t get Susan’s link to Ravelry to work up above, so just go to Susan Carlson on Ravelry.com and see her wonderful work.

Saw a woman’s posting elsewhere that her friend made her a big mandala for the Spare Tire on her Jeep! Said she never loses it in the parking lot any more!

I have made hanging decorations by crocheting a mandala inside a brass ring, one time I added a wire crystal bodied spider to the “web”.
