Crochet.Community Collaboration #1- Mandala 2015 #3: Row 2: suggestions

Ok… here we go!
People have been busy planning their mandala re: colours, yarns, and hook sizes. Now we are ready to “get this party started” and our Mandala as well.

We have the first row
ROW 1: create a magic ring; 8 (DC, chain1 sets) [note: start with a chain 4 as first set]
(Edit: it was suggested that it is chain 3 not chain 4 for the first double crochet plus chain one)
Total Stitches: 16

Now for the second row
What are your ideas for our next row in the Collaboration Mandala?

And then what?
We will brainstorm ideas throughout the week and on Friday, I will have things set up for voting over the weekend. Next Monday, we will know what our next row will be.

Jenlaw71 ...

1. chain 3, 2 FPDC around each DC, join w/slip stitch to 1st FPDC

Kristi ...

I can see that Jenlaw71, will have to try it and see what that looks like

Debbie Pribele ...

12andcounting had suggested this in the first posting (thanks 12andcounting)

2. join the first row in the third chain of the chain four, the slip stitch around the next chain, chain 4, dc in same chain space (first v-stitch made), then (dc, ch, dc) in the next chain space 7 times

Debbie Pribele ...

emi had made this suggestion (thanks emi)

3. front post dc every other stitch a back post dc

flamingfountain1 ...

4. What about a treble cluster around?

Debbie Pribele ...

5. sets of dc, ch1, dc, in each space around

Debbie Pribele ...

QUESTION: row 2 should be double the amount of stitches than row 1, yes? (in order to lie flat)

BarbS ...

I like the treble cluster idea, or something that reaches down in a dropped stitch. Or emi’s front and back post crochets, alternating. Something with texture! I’m going to have trouble voting for one, aren’t I?

Debbie Pribele ...

lol yup !!!
but remember: there are many other rows ahead

lstryban ...

6. How about for the next row………After slip stitch to close row 1. Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet) then DC in same stitch. DC in front loop of chain st. Then DC in back loop of chain stich. DC in front loop of DC. Then DC in back loop of DC continue in this pattern total 32 stitches. This is what it looks like. Hope this makes sense. http://res.cloudinary.com/cc/image/upload/image_pdrk5n.jpg!

BarbS ...

That would be a good start to a mandala.

Debbie Pribele ...

and a photo, too .. thanks Istryban.

Hi! I’m so happy to be a part of this..but tell me.. we are working something in the round then? Sorry.. seems a silly question written out.. but this isn’t a square or something? It will be worked in the round or have we not gotten far enough to determine that? Thanks in advance! Never worked a CAL before. : )

Debbie Pribele ...

well… I have no idea!
Actually, I think Mandalas are round, as they symbolize the Universe.. but this is a collaboration mandala… so if someone suggested corners and people vote for it, then it will be square! :)

this is quite exciting — not even knowing the shape, as it, too, will be determined by the members! Pretty cool.
