I am home with my 2 boys, well one is in grade school. I love to crochet. All my years of growing up, both my grandmothers tried to teach me how to crochet, never took to it, at all. Now that I am able to be home due to disabilities with my kids, I decided December of 2013 that I wanted to learn how to crochet. I find it very fun, entertaining, educational, and relaxing.

I learned early but my mom never wanted to learn. Fast forward many many years and when she was home due to disabilities she too wanted to learn. SO I taught her. She spent a great deal of her crochet time making lap blankets for the veteran’s hospital. Mom passed away in 2012. I have been honoring that tradition of making for others with my blankets I make for the cat cages at my local animal shelters. They are so quick to make since they just need to be 17" square and I can try out new patterns on them. They don’t have any criteria except size so I have tried many different yarns, multiple yarns, different stitches etc.

I love your story. I want to use my scraps to make blankets for the needy and animal shelters. I haven’t don’t anything with my scraps other than use them for stuffing for the horns on hats lol. After Christmas I want to donate some of my makings as well, I haven’t yet due to just learning a year ago, but it is in my plans. I do have tons of baby hats. I have 2 friends now that want me to teach them how to crochet. And I love going to my grandmas house, she owned a sewing shop but does not sew for business now. She started crocheting pot holders lately since she cannot do much. She didn’t crochet much before. My other grandma that did crochet all the time has been passed for about 7 years. I love crocheting, I find it very relaxing. I just tried to make a type of infinity scarf but to criss cross around my body to help keep warm, but didn’t turn out the way I wanted.
